Diana (DeeDee) Falkenbach's PledgePage
HI EVERYONE! This is exciting...it is my first webpage! Don’t forget to PLEASE SIGN MY GUESTBOOK!!
First I wanted to tell everyone that I recently underwent a full psychological evaluation (I am a psychology graduate student and it is cheap when you know people in the business) and contrary to what you might think, I am not insane! You may be wondering why I subjected myself to the other side of a psych eval. Well, I have had a pretty difficult and crazy year and I figured I did not have enough going on with internship, dissertation and deciding what to be when I grow up. So I decided I would run my first MARATHON! Given that decision, several people thought I might want to get my head checked. While I do tend to be a little on the crazy side, I actually did this for someone else. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has formed Team in Training. Each member runs on behalf of a patient. I ran the marathon on behalf of Cynthia Gormezano who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2000 at age 28. This year this devastating disease touched my friend Chuck’s father, who lost the fight to Leukemia in January. That is why on June 27, 2004 I will be competing in the New York City Triathlon, in honor of Charles S. Palumbo. This event consists of a .9-mile swim, a 25 mile bike ride and a 6.2-mile run. Charles and his family will give me inspiration, mentally and physically, during the toughest parts of training and the race. Still, these endurance events seem a little extreme, right? Well here are some facts: • Leukemia & its blood-related cancers strike some 107,900 Americans each year and kill 60,500. • Every five minutes, someone in the United States learns they have leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. • Leukemia kills more people between the ages of 2 and 14 than any other disease, and the number of affiliated adults is 10 times that of children. • Leukemia research has been the leader for effective treatments of Hodgkin’¦s disease, lymphomas and other common kinds of cancers, including breast and lung cancer. • GOOD NEWS - the survival rate has risen from 4% in 1960 to 81% in the last decade. These facts convinced me to run and to try and raise as much money as I can. For the marathon I raised $3,168.40. The funds will be used for research, patient aid and education. While the cause of leukemia remains unknown, the recently developed treatment methods and advances in research bring us closer everyday to finding a cure. As I train for the NYC triathlon I hope to continue to raise money for the society and I know each mile will symbolize another step on the road to a cure for leukemia. Please keep Cynthia, Charles and Team in Training in your thoughts, and support me in my mission to make a difference. Please donate what you can.Don’t forget, all donations are 100% tax-deductible. Your sponsorship can be whatever you can afford. All donations will be greatly appreciated. I am also selling signage space on my clothes for all those who wish to donate $100.00 or more. I will put your name on any of the clothing locations listed below: * back of shirt * front of shirt * socks * legs * front of hat * arms * shoes * front of shorts The back of my shorts will be reserved for the highest bidder! Let me know if you want that body part, and what you would be willing to contribute for it. If you choose signage, let me know the part you want and the name as you wish it to appear. Space is limited. Please return your contribution, along with the form below, as soon as possible. With your help I will raise the money needed to help find a cure for this disease. I really appreciate your willingness to help, and again thank you for your generosity. I will keep you posted on my success. Thanks for visiting my website and feel free to pass the link on to your friends, co-workers and family! DeeDee |
